Where do I begin?

December 4, 2012 by Kim Barrot, Attorney

My husband and I bought an old house a few years ago. We knew going in that it would need work and eventually we wanted to do an extensive remodel which would include a new addition to the house. We started discussing what we wanted to do and a timeframe, but had no idea where to start. Honestly we were somewhat paralyzed by our lack of knowledge. Somewhat afraid of making calls because we didn’t know the questions to ask: Do we start with an architect? An engineer? A construction company? what should we expect to pay? The list went on and on.

As we were going through the process I realized many people probably feel this way about estate planning too. Should I have a will? A living trust? What is the difference? How do they work? I don’t even know the questions to ask….

I want to put you at ease. We will help you. We know the questions that most people need answered. We do not expect clients or prospective clients to have all the answers. That’s why we are here. We want to help you. We know the questions to ask you to determine the best estate planning method for your personal situation. We see a range of situations from simply needing an Advance Health Care Directive and a power of attorney for assets, to others who need a living trust and various other advanced estate planning tools such as LLC’s, Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts.

Please feel comfortable to call our office and schedule your thirty minute complimentary review  with one of our estate planning attorneys. Don’t worry about a list of questions or bringing anything with you. We know the questions to ask and can provide advice based on your specific situation
