I read an article about a woman who had just lost her husband and decided to update her end-of-life documents. She updated her Will, durable Power of Attorney, and her Advanced Health Care Directive, but included the document in a file called “This is it”. In that file were instructions for her two daughters to follow after her death. As overwhelmed as the two adult daughters were with losing their mother, they found great comfort in this file. The file included the names of their mom’s “team:” lawyers, stockbrokers, accountants, insurance agent, and even her priest. It also included names and phone numbers of friends and family members to call after her death and enough cash for all funeral expenses. Their mother wanted them to worry and stress as little as possible. I loved the story of this mother’s plan and the law firm encourages everyone to think about doing for their loved ones.
