On June 9, 2016, the controversial law—Death with Dignity—regarding terminal illness and death will go into effect. Policymakers, as well as individuals who are fighting terminal illness, worked tirelessly to get a law passed to allow people with terminal illness control their illness and the terms of their death. Many of our clients convey that they do not want their life artificially delayed if they are going to be in a vegetative state; that they do not want to be in pain and that they do not want their families to endure watching a long and debilitating illness. Despite the being a contentious debate, on June 9, 2016, Californians will now have the choice to die with dignity, to die on their own terms.
