Estate planning requires knowing all of your assets, not only for your sake but your successor trustees. This article is a good reminder to make sure you have a detailed and current list of your assets.
Our clients complete a “client asset worksheet” to easily list their assets, by category, and discuss with their attorney what should be put into the living trust, or if it is a beneficiary designated account if the beneficiary should be changed. So once you have executed your living trust you have a current list of all your assets. It is also important to keep those assets updated, and titled or designated appropriately.
