Last week the attorneys in our office attended a national educational summit in San Diego, California hosted by the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys. The Academy is an exclusive national educational organization that has cultivated excellence in estate planning by providing member attorneys with research and critical updates in estate, business planning, and tax laws. If you are like my husband, you are probably chuckling and making a snide comment about how “riveting” the conference must have been. Just hold on, it was well worth it for me and my clients.
The conference focused on important areas of estate planning with seminars including Tax Law Updates & the Affordable Care Act, $5 Million Exemption and Portability, International Estate Planning, and Planning for Blended Families. The seminar provided us with unparalleled education to help serve our clients better. Starting next year the estate tax exemption amount is reduced to $1 million from the $5.14 million this year and it is important to help our clients address this drastic change in the law. The conference provided the education necessary to assist my clients in preserving their life savings.
Aside from providing resources for estate planning, the conference also taught us about practice management. This included seminars on social media, the paperless office, and strategies for managing staff. The practice management education also helps our clients by guaranteeing they receive the best possible service from our firm.
While the conference may not be “riveting” to most, it will certainly help our clients and our future clients. If you are interested in learning more about the information we learned and how we can help your family, please call our office at 650-463-1550.
